Huawei has launched an updated TalkBand and the new B3 model improves on the previous smartwatch in a number of areas. The new device looks good and has some useful and unusual features.
This is no Apple Watch killer and it does not have all the capabilities of that device. It clearly aims to be different and the design focuses on two things - fitness and phone calls.
There is one smartwatch, but five different bands to choose from and there is TalkBand B3 Active in black and white, a leather strap Classic in brown and beige, and the titanium constructed Elite.

The device has:
- 128 KB of RAM
- 16 MB of storage
- Micro USB charging port
- OLED touchscreen
- 128 x 80 pixels display
- 21.7 mm wide, 12.2 mm thick
- Weight 95.8g.
- 91 mAh battery with 6 hour talk time, 3-4 days average use
The TalkBand B3 tracks your activities and fitness using different modes, such as run, climb, walk, ride and sleep. It automatically detects the type of activity and you can check your progress and history using an app on your iPhone or Android phone.
The touchscreen supports swipe up and down, and touch gestures, enabling you to switch screens, call contacts, mute or reject incoming calls, call back missed calls, start and exercise session, turn off alarms and more.
The TalkBand name comes from its unique feature among smartwatches and it is a Bluetooth headset. Push a button on the side of the TalkBand and the unit pops out of the frame. You then put it in your ear and you can walk around and receive phone calls via Bluethooth.

This is an unusual and perhaps unique hybrid device that is part watch, part fitness tracker and part Bluethooth headset. The band is basically a holder for the headset. It is weird and it is hard to say whether it will catch on, but the company gets full marks for being innovative. This is not just another me-to device and it stands out from the crowd.
