If you have an Android phone, you probably have a battery problem. They just drain too fast. If you are struggling to make the battery last a full day in your phone, Battery Saver – Free could be the solution.
There are, of course, dozens of apps in the Google Play Store that are designed to wring out every last drop of juice from your phone’s battery and it can be hard to choose the right one. Comodo Battery Saver – Free has some useful features and is worth considering.
The home screen is more useful than some battery savers and the top half shows a large graphic illustrating the battery level, and there is the time remaining in hours and minutes. The bottom half of the screen has a Quick Actions panel that provides access to many phone and tablet functions that drain the power. For example, there is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 2G/3G, screen brightness, sound, and Auto Sync. All these can be turned off or on with a tap and the more you can turn off, the longer the battery will last.
Go to the Save Mode screen and there are preset battery modes and customisable ones. This is the best feature of Batter Saver and you can quickly select one of the presets, such as Normal Mode (most features switched on), Power Saving Mode (most features switched off), or Economy Mode (all features switched off.)
There are customisable modes and these include Reading Mode, Cinema Mode (and meetings too), Gaming Mode, and My Custom Mode. All of these can be configured. Some have limited configuration options, but My Custom Mode enables you to set the screen timeout and brightness, vibration alert, Wi-Fi, mobile network, auto sync, Bluetooth and touch feedback.
These modes enable you to quickly switch from one set of power settings to another. Switching can be automatic too and there is an Intelligent Options screen with various settings. For example, when the battery drops below 20% you can choose to switch to another mode, such as Economy or Power Saving.
Power modes can be scheduled and the phone or tablet can automatically switch to Economy or Power Saving mode at night. You can define the hours, such as 11pm to 7am. Outside of these hours, the previous mode is enabled.
Some features, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 2G/3G can be configured to automatically switch off after the phone has been locked for a certain length of time. So you could, for example, turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 10 minutes after locking the phone.
Comodo Battery Saver - Free is basically a utility for selecting custom phone or tablet configurations. It has a mixture of preset modes, automatic switching depending on the time of day and current battery level, and manual switching.
It does not show which apps are draining the battery or allow you to close apps, which is a limitation and you will need to find that information elsewhere. Despite this limitation, it is a good utility that can help you get more out of the battery.
